Robin Williams Returns to HBO For A Comedy Special

Posted by tvjunkywright on July 8, 2009

robin-williams

It’s been seven long years since Robin Williams’ last HBO special. But the wait is finally over!

Comedian Robin Williams will be taping his new HBO stand-up special in November, live from Washington DC. The network will then premiere the show in December.

Williams has been back on the road touring, however it was put in hold after the comedian underwent heart surgery. But now he is back, and funnier than ever.

This will be his sixth stand-up show on the network, including his last one in 2002. “Robin Williams: Live on Broadway” is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen, and I really recommend it.

Don’t forget to tune in this December for Williams’ return to HBO.

Why I will NOT be Live-Blogging Michael Jackson’s Memorial Service

Posted by tvjunkywright on July 7, 2009

mj-rip

Since the news of his death, the media has been all over the Michael Jackson story. The death of a celebrity is only very public, but when a public icon passes away, it gets attention. Michael Jackson was not only influential, but ground-breaking performer.

So it was no surprise that people from all around the world registered online to get tickets for today’s public memorial service, live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Millions registered, and thousands were chosen at random to win a ticket to the historic service.

Today, the networks will be on location covering the service, even interrupting regular programming to cover the memorial service live. Websites like TMZ, Hulu, CNN, and more will be offering live streams of the service so the people who can’t attend can still watch.

But yesterday, I saw something that really blew my mind. It was a posting on Entertainment Weekly website promotion their “LIVE-BLOG” of the memorial service. E! will also be providing a live-blog, and I’m sure many more will follow suit.

A live-blog… for a memorial service. Let that sink in for a minute.

With all the coverage this story has been getting, is a live-blog realty necessary? People have to remember, this isn’t a concert or award-show. I’ve done live-blogs on this site many times, but I can’t for the life of me find a reason to live-blog a MEMORIAL SERVICE.

What are you suppose to blog about? Witty comments about the people sobbing? How classless is that. We all have to remember what this is. It’s a memorial service to say goodbye to a music icon.

So am I going to watch today’s service? Yes I will. Will this site live-blog it? NO! This is a memorial service people, do you want people live-blogging at your loved-one’s memorial service?

Enjoy the memorial service everywhere.

Pack of 90s SNL Alums Star in New Movie “Grown Ups”

Posted by tvjunkywright on July 6, 2009

SNL alums

I know I’m not the only one who misses the glory days of SNL. Yes, it is still fun today, especially with Andy Samberg’s Digital Shorts, but it’s nothing compared to what the show was in the 1990s.

But for those who want to recapture that 90s magic should check out this new Comedy “Grown Ups”

Already slated to star in the new film are SNL alums Adam Sandler, Maya Rudolph, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Chris Rock, Norm Macdonald, Tim Herlihy, Colin Quinn and Tim Meadows. Adam Sandler will also produce and co-write the film, which is about High School pals reunite after decades apart.

Quite ironic, considering many are awaiting this reunion. Are you pumped? Or should this of stayed in the 90s?

Sarah Palin: The TV Shows She Would Fit Right In!

Posted by tvjunkywright on July 5, 2009

sarah-palin

On Friday, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin made the shocking announcement that she will be stepping down from her position in office.

Therefore, Palin will have a lot more time on her hands. We all know how much she loves the spotlight, so television would be the logical option for her right? For now anyways until she decides to pursue other things.

So it’s my honour to list which television shows Sarah Palin would fit right in as a cast member.

Mrs. Palin, you’re welcome in advance.

The first show that comes to mind would be “24”. Think about it, Jack Bauer is a maverick, and we all know how Palin likes to get all mavericky. Heck, she could even be President! I know…scary thought, but it’s only TV folks. Of course her first mission for Jack would be to stop America’s deadliest threat…polar bears! “Gosh darnit get those buggers” she would order Jack.

If “24” isn’t a good fit for her, she should try something like Grey’s Anatomy. Palin is the new doctor hired by Chief Webber. She will be brought in as Head of Geriatrics, because we know she has experience with one old guy.

Unfortunately she ruffles some feathers early on when she doesn’t approve of all sleeping around going on. She tries to preach abstinence until marriage, which earns her the nickname “Mc Irony”.

The next show she would fit right in would be American Idol. With all the rumours of a judge leaving the show, she could replace one of them. Palin would make the contestant feel at ease with a smile and a wink, then slowly crush their dreams.

“You know what’s the difference between you and a pit-bull,” she asks a female contestant. “The pit-bull can sing!”

Ouch! Like she did with John McCain’s presidential run, she crushed her dreams.

Ok, I admit American Idol maybe the wrong venue for her. So how about LOST? Spoiler alert, all the events that’s happened in six seasons, it’s actually what’s going through Sarah Palin’s mind.

If everything else fails, there’s one show she would fit right at home. Of course I’m talking about “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader”. I mean, she already talks like them, but can she out-wit them? I smell a ratings hit!

And there you have it folks, TV shows that Sarah Palin should join as a cast member. Once again, Mrs Palin, you’re welcome for the ideas. I hope to hear from you in 2012… I hear you’re going to be quite busy.
